The Golf Club was established
on it's present site in 1929 and has a
proud tradition for Golf in the region. Originally designed and played
as a 9 hole sand scrape course it was converted to an 18 hole course
shortly after World World 2. With the popularity of Golf in Australia
through the late 50's and early 60's the Mooroopna Golf Club was known
as one of the best courses north of Melbourne and saw a bevy of
Australian and overseas golfing professionals gracing the
fairways of mighty Mooroopna.
Bob Shearer past Australian Champion started his Junior Golf at
Mooroopna and his name still appears on the Junior trophy held at the
club. Many great International and Australian players such as the great
Peter Thompson and the legendary Gary Player also played Mooroopna's
fairways. In 1964 the course was converted to grass greens and in the
past 40 years the Club has continued to grow and prosper. In the
early 1990's the Club's commercial arm expanded into a 7 day a week
business with the introduction of a Tabaret gaming facility, 7 day a week
Bistro and other Hospitality facilities. A resident Golfing Professional
and Pro shop were addded around this time to give members and visitors
the services that are required for this great game.
In recent years the Club has undertaken a program of course improvements
including re building of greens and fairways. This continuing program
will ensure that Mooroopna Golf Club remains at the forefront of Golfing
excellence in the region for many a year to come.
